GMS cares! Our Earth Care team makes sure that GMS is Earth friendly by managing the recycling program, sponsoring litterless lunches and performing energy audits.

Earth Hour

At 8pm on March 27, 2010, cities across the world will turn off their lights for just one hour – Earth Hour™ – to show that it’s possible to take action on global warming. Switching off is a simple action that can make a difference and it sends a powerful message that the people of the world care about the future of the planet.
We need you to help us make it happen.

Sign up to Earth Hour by visiting www.earthhour.org and commit to turning off your lights on March 27th from 8pm to 9pm.

Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! On April 22, GMS students celebrate our planet and how we can take the best care of it possible. Yard cleanup initiatives are underway under the kind guidance of Mme Gallaugher and our Earth Care Team. Click here to see how Canada participates.

Recycling

Once a week, Gallaugher Centre and Mr. Adams manage the recycling program here at school. Check the blue bins and help keep our planet clean.

Here's an idea!

If you don't want to trash some of those things that are no longer useable in your home, consider this website:
www.charitywishlist.ca
It suggests places you can send all kinds of things you don't want (including computer parts, electronics, toys, etc.) and it would prevent further landfill junk. Just click on the icon that refers to the wish list, find Ottawa, and you will see a list of places that take back numerous things for recycling or reusing.

This website helps you recycle old electronics: http://www.dowhatyoucan.ca

Litterless Lunch Fridays

The EarthCARE team is hosting Litterless Lunch Fridays. Each student who brings a litterless lunch to school (a lunch in which nothing is thrown in the garbage, it is either taken home to be used again or recycled) will have their name entered to win a prize. Listen to announcements to find out when the contest begins. Remember though, every day is a good litterless lunch day!

For some information on litterless lunches, please click on the lunch bag

** Due to a change to our recycling contract, the school is now able able to recycle milk cartons.**

The 2009-2010 Recycling Team thanks you for your co-operation!

Students are encouraged to visit the EarthCare website
